Off For A Makeover

During the 2024 general election, the BBC focussed on championing the voice of working voters across the UK. As part of that, the politics team at Look North developed “Talking Shop” a chance to meet our audience where they’re at, and - on their turf and terms - talk to them about their views and hopes ahead of the election. I played a key role in the development of this series and enjoyed heading out to meet Kirsha, Lilly and the rest of the team at Kirsha Knowles Hair & Beauty.

The Corner Shop-ping Mall.

I report on a major housing plan which would see almost a thousand homes built around one of Europe’s biggest shopping malls. The plans aimed to offer a symbiotic solution to two key issues: new housing developments are often built without appropriate health and leisure facilities. Offering these services in a shopping mall that’s just walking distance services this new community of houses while also encouraging footfall in a retail venue that’s faced hardship during the pandemic and cost of living crisis.

Not Your Usual Family Business

I’m a passionate Formula 1 fan, and was delighted when I found out that the North East and Cumbria region had a new up-and-coming star beginning her career on the international motor racing stage. Fresh from her first win in the F1 Academy racing series, I went to meet Jess Edgar and ask her how it feels to be the first British winner in the all-female feeder series.

Budget Eve

For political enthusiasts, it’s easy to get excited about a new budget - it’s one of the major political events of the year. Of course aside from the politics, decisions made in the budget have often significant financial consequences for many people of all backgrounds. So as we sought to make our political coverage relevant and relatable for our local audience at Look North, I met up with 4 people from across the North East and Cumbria to find out what issues were top of their priorities.
